About Sandstone Design

Sandstone was born out of Allister Dempster's desire to fulfil his dream of creating and nurturing beautiful outdoor spaces.  Many visits to Great Dixter when young had fueled this interest and after turning his back on the T.V. and film business, Ali attended Hadlow College, setting up Sandstone Garden Design and Landscaping in 1998.

Ali appreciates that his previous career, designing and creating sets in the T.V. and film industry, was a marvellous grounding for the interpretive, creative and yet practical design skills needed when turning often vague dreams and aspirations into reality.

Twelve years and numerous wheel barrows later, imagination, flair, and creativity alongside good communication skills and a positive attitude are among the qualities reflected in Sandstone's highly committed team of landscapers; the reason that Sandstone enjoys its great reputation.

The landscape team is headed up by Richard Ayles who, in conjunction with Ali, oversees all projects undertaken. Sandstone's permanently employed staff have all the necessary skills and expertise to complete all aspects of any landscaping project.

With everyone's heightened awareness of climate change we are also pleased to be designing and producing gardens and buildings that allow us to contribute, in a small way, to the conservation and sustainability the of world's limited resources. With our design studio and office in central Tunbridge Wells, clients are able to pop in and see us and prospective clients are able to view Sandstone?s portfolio at leisure.

Sandstone is the inhouse garden design service for The Flower House, High Street, Mayfield, where examples of our work can be seen.
