Case Study Two - Medium Sized Modern Garden

Our Brighton based clients asked Sandstone to create a contemporary garden that would compliment the Art deco nature of their 1930’s house and yet reflect its refurbished, modern interior.
In order to achieve this, Designer Ali Dempster, has created a wonderfully tranquil and ordered space, using clean and simple lines, natural materials, subtle colours and architectural planting.

As can be seen, the clean, vertical surfaces of the white, rendered walls delineate the garden space. This contrasts in texture and colour with natural limestone paving, laid to extend into the back of the house.   By opening the full width, sliding, glass doors, our clients can easily create a harmonious, indoor/outdoor space complimented by the Balau deck.

The Architectural nature of the planting provides the structure and colour that shape the garden; and the native trees provide a very effective canopy.

By finishing the base and sides of the rectangular pool black, the surrounding bamboos are mirrored in the pool and the limestone stepping stones seem as if they are floating on the water’s surface.

The whole garden is lit by a variety of pin point LED lights placed along the path, in niches set in the walls and at the base of the black bamboos.  The multi-channel lighting box, with remote controlled zone lighting, allows our clients to tailor their garden lighting to suit their mood or the occasion.
